Antique Byo-bu Screen Paper / Abstract Art / Wall Hanging
This is a rare and valuable item. When placed on the wall, it measures impressive dimensions of 162.5 cm (5.3 feet) in height and 62.5 cm (2 feet) in width. In traditional Japanese homes, paper room dividers are known as 'byōbu.' This piece comes from a dismantled byōbu, with its surface covered by paper records inscribed with brush writing, likely from some kind of ledger. Unfortunately, the text is too old for me to decipher, but it appears to be from the Edo period, though the exact age is uncertain. Originally, the side adorned with geometric patterns was meant to decorate interiors. However, from a modern perspective, the side with the backing paper appears more intriguing. Enjoy the interwoven brushstrokes and the texture of the layered washi paper.
When I acquired it, it was already folded to roughly A3 size, so it bears fold marks.

As our products are shipped from Japan they may be subject to taxes and to customs fees in the country of delivery. These costs are the customer’s responsibility.
For our customers in the USA:
Most packages with a declared value under $2000 USD will be cleared without any fees. (http://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/internet-purchases)
For our customers in Australia:
Australian customs consider orders below $1000 AUD as 'low-value imports'. As of 01 July 2018, customs duties may apply to any goods imported from overseas by consumers in Australia. For more information please visit the Australian customs website (http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Impo/Buyi).
For our customers in Canada:
Orders above $20 CAN require that you pay the applicable duties and the GST. For more information please visit the Canadian customs website (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/dtytx-drttx-eng.html).
For our customers in the EU:
From 1 July 2021, import VAT is payable on all goods entering the EU, irrespective of their value. For goods with a value of more than €150, you will have to pay Customs Duty in addition to import VAT. The customs value on which Customs Duty is calculated is the cost of the goods plus transport (including postage), insurance, and handling charges to deliver the goods to the EU. The rate of Customs Duty that applies depends on the goods you import.
We understand that custom fees are worrying for some of you. We hope you are reassured that, when buying on SOMOC, you are ordering directly from Japan- getting authentic and original Japanese items that are not easily found anywhere else.
EMS (JP Post shipped, delivered by your National Post) generally charges the required sum at delivery.
